"Can other lesbian health professionals join ALMA?"
We sometimes receive enquiries from lesbian nurses, physios and dentists about joining ALMA. We have debated this at length within ALMA, and at the moment membership is limited to lesbian doctors and medical students.
We recognise that lesbian women training and working in health face similar issues, and that so far there are not a lot of support groups out there. If you would like to start up a group, and we can help in any way, please let us know!
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there isn't a group specifically for gay male doctors.
However there is a group called Rainbow Doctors Australia who have an active Facebook group that welcomes both medical students and doctors within the LGBTI community.
There is also a group GLADD (Gay and Lesbian Doctors and Dentists) who ran a float in the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade in 2013 to much acclaim. A float is now planned for 2014 (see www.facebook.com/GLADDSYDNEY)
"Can I leave something to ALMA in my will?"
Yes, and we are glad you asked! Bequests are one of the ways that overseas LGBTIQ organisations have become financially independent. Click here for more information.
